We are happy to tune using our Plex Knock Detection equipment, which provides accurate real-time knock monitoring. In all cases we will be listening for knock and if we hear it we will be retarding the ignition or aborting the tuning if we cannot get it under control.
It is our opinion that any vehicle making more than stock power should have knock detection installed within the ECU or a dedicated controller, how you present the vehicle to us is your decision.
Requirements for Knock Detection:
- Your engine must have Bosch Knock Sensors installed, which we can connect to during tuning. We will not be fitting knock sensors within the fixed price of a tuning session
- Ideally, your ECU should have built-in knock detection or use a separate controller that we can calibrate and utilize as part of the tuning process. If it isn't present in the ECU maybe you need another ecu!
Knock detection is a critical part of safe tuning, ensuring that ignition timing is optimized while maintaining engine reliability. If your vehicle does not have knock detection available, we strongly recommend installing knock sensors before tuning to achieve the best results.
We take a very conservative approach to road car tuning to ensure we are well back from the knock threshold. We will not tune a car that is knocking. We try and take in to account for different fuel types. But if the engine doesn't have knock sensors it cannot do it itself.
If you then say "I need more power" and you want to get power levels up without knock detection within the Engine ECU, honestly it isn't a good idea but if you ask we're going to do it for you.
